Bio: Bertie Lange taught in one of Birmingham’s few Black schools, persevering despite dilapidated classrooms and minimal supplies. Her photograph, commissioned in 1907, showcased her commitment to elevating young minds. 

Eva Wilder, a local Black photographer, captured Eloise in a schoolhouse setting, highlighting the dignity of African American educators. This photo was part of a campaign to garner funding for Black education in the South.
