Bio:  Precious Assurance Long worked tirelessly as a nurse at a segregated clinic, treating Black patients with limited resources. She was photographed by Henry Carter, a traveling Black photographer documenting the lives of everyday heroes.

Precious Long's portrait was featured in a Alabama newspaper, highlighting her contributions. Her story resonated with many, showcasing the resilience of Black healthcare workers. She lost her fiance on the day from the flu on the day she was to be married. Her unusual choice of dying her wedding dress and veil black made news across the South and influenced many widows.
